Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 23 / Trend , E.Ostapenko /

During Spanish presidency, EU expects to adopt a new energy strategy which will contribute to diversification of energy supplies, strengthening international cooperation with consumers, producers and transit countries of energy supplies.

The new EU energy strategy - Energy Action Plan for 2010-2014 will be built upon energy security and solidarity as main basements, said Spain's Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos who is chairman of EU from Jan.1 to July 1 2010.

He said the EU's new energy strategy aims at reducing vulnerability of EU countries through developing the internal energy market with more and better networks and interconnections and improving market access and transparency.

"Although energy diversification by energy sources and supplying countries will continue being the highest priority, the Spanish Presidency will also support plans already agreed by the EU to diversify transport routes for energy supplies towards EU Member States", Moratinos said.

According to Moratinos, the EU will continue supporting the development of the Southern Corridor and particularly the Nabucco Project.

Southern Corridor is a priority EU energy project diversifying energy supply routes and sources and increasing EU energy security. The Southern Corridor includes: the Nabucco gas pipeline, Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), White Stream, and ITGI (Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline).
