In 2011, Turkmenistan celebrates 20 years of independence. The 16th Turkmenistan International Oil and Gas Conference, OGT 2011 will acknowledge the achievements made in the development of Turkmenistan's oil and gas resources during this period and also look to the future plans for the development of the industry over the next 20 years to 2030.

According to the National Programme of Socio-economic Development of Turkmenistan from 2011-2030, natural gas production will reach 230 billion cubic meters a year, 180 billion cubic meters of which is planned for export. This will be made possible with exploitation of new gas fields along with technical upgrade of the existing developments.

In order to achieve set targets, there is a need for wide ranging investment into cutting edge technology during all stages of production: exploration, development, transportation, refining, and processing. The continuous enhancement of the oil and gas sector's economic and production capabilities are prioritized for this stage of development.

In addition, further development of the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan calls for active encouragement of international companies' investment into service sector. There is a wide sphere for cooperation: high-tech methods for geological exploration; use of effective technologies for drilling of oil wells; development of gas and oil fields, in particular fields that have been long in production; major overhaul of wells; and preparation and transportation of carbohydrates.

Development of petrochemical facilities is a priority area for working with international companies and contains numerous avenues for investment along with processing of natural gas containing ethanol for production of more valuable and in demand products.
