Gas volumes in underground gas storages of Azerbaijan may reach 3.5 billion cubic metres during 2012 as against 3.25 billion cubic metres in 2011, a source in the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), which owns the gas storages, said on Tuesday.
There are two underground gas storages in Azerbaijan - Kalmaz and Garadagh.
Gas volumes in the storages amounted to 3.05 billion cubic metres in 2010.
SOCAR planned to inject 3.5 billion cubic metres to underground gas storages last year, but because of a sharp deterioration in weather conditions and consumption growth the process of gas injection was stopped before the scheduled time.
