Turkey and Syria signed an interim agreement on electricity supply, chairman of the board of the Turkish Electricity Trade and Contract Corporation (TETAS), Haci Duran Gokkaya told Trend on Friday.
"The parties signed an interim agreement on electricity supply. Exports will be carried out by the private sector," Gokkaya said. He added that the validity of the previous agreement expired late last month.
Turkey has not stopped electricity exports to Syria on humanitarian grounds.
Earlier Gokkaya told Trend that Turkey exports 232.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity every month to Syria and they are very important supplies for the country.
The crisis in relations between Turkey and Syria has recently worsened after a Turkish Air Force F-4 jet departing from the Erhac airbase in the Province of Malatya, was shot down by Syria.
Syria said it shot down the F4 jet because it was flying over Syrian territorial waters. However the Turkish side says that the F4 jet was shot down in international airspace and its wreckage fell into Syrian territorial waters.
