BP stresses local specialists’ growing role in Azerbaijani oil and gas projects

The role of Azerbaijani specialists in oil and gas projects implemented in the country is increasing from year to year, BP-Azerbaijan Vice President for operations Mark Thomas said on the forum of young engineers on Saturday.

The forum held in Baku on November 24-25 has been organized by NGOs Caspian Engineers Society.

"Foreign companies' activity played a very important role in training the world level engineers in Azerbaijan," he said. "Foreign specialists mainly participated in Azerbaijani projects at the beginning of our activity. Around 86 percent of BP-Azerbaijan staff fell to local experts by late 2011."

Attracting the best students in Azerbaijan will remain a priority of the company's human resource policy, he said.

Azersun Holding Director General Ahmet Yeman said that the growth of non-oil sector in Azerbaijan, the creation of new enterprises increase demand for highly skilled professionals, including engineers.

"A large number of engineers involved in the food industry of the country, worked in Azersun Holding," Yeman said.

The main purpose of the forum is to discuss the topics related to education, technology development, and other issues in the engineering field.
