Construction of hydroelectric power plants may be suspended in Adjara, chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic Avtandil Beridze said at a briefing on Monday.
He noted that they will apply to the parliament for the issue consideration in the near future. Beridze considers that the HPP construction should be revised.
"Maybe we'll stop the construction, will study and decide whether it is safe for the economic development of the state. Along with this, the matter should be resolved taking into account the environmental and public interests," Beridze said.
It is planned to construct 5 HPPs in Adjara.
