Turkey is expecting proposals from other countries to import six billion cubic meters of liquefied gas, the Sabah newspaper quotes Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz as saying on Saturday.

He said if the United States will offer to supply liquefied gas to Turkey, the country is ready to consider the proposal.

Turkey's liquefied gas market is increasing each year due to more consumption of this type of hydrocarbon product, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said earlier. According to Yildiz, this year volume of the liquefied gas market in Turkey hit 3.7 million tons. This means Turkey ranks second in Europe and 15th in the world for the volume of the liquefied gas market.

According to the report of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), import of liquefied gas into Turkey in September 2012 was 291,995 tons compared to 258,570 tons in the same period of 2011.

Answering to a question about U.S. sanctions against Iran's oil and gas sector, Yildiz said that the provision of entire Turkey with natural gas is more important than Washington's foreign policy.

"Imposing sanctions against Iran threatens Turkey's energy supply," he said.

Turkey imports annually 8 million tons of oil and 8 billion cubic meters of gas from Iran.
