Turkey to build power plants in Libya

Turkey has launched a restoration project of Libyan electrical infrastructure damaged during that country’s unrest, chairman of the Turkish State Company for electricity trade (TETAS) Haci Duran Gokkaya told Trend on Thursday.

Turkey has launched a restoration project of Libyan electrical infrastructure damaged during that country's unrest, chairman of the Turkish State Company for electricity trade (TETAS) Haci Duran Gokkaya told Trend on Thursday.

He said Turkish companies will build power plants in Libya as a part of an electrical infrastructure restoration project.

"Both public and private Turkish companies will take part in these projects tenders. Turkey received some projects without tenders ", Gokkaya said.

Moreover, Turkey will share thermal power plant building experience with Libya.

Gokkaya did not specify the exact date of the launch of plant construction or the estimated cost of these projects.

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz recently made an official visit to Libya where he held a number of meetings. As a result of the minister's visit, the countries reached an agreement on cooperation in the energy sector. In particular, the sides discussed the export of liquefied natural gas from Libya to Turkey.
