Azerbaijan, Baku, April 8 / Trend, E. Ismailov /

All of SOCAR's (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) projects in Turkey will be implemented in the form of tenders; therefore, Azerbaijani companies will be able to take active part in them, the head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev told reporters.

In particular, according to Abdullayev, contracts for construction of the new Star refinery in Turkey and the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline project (TANAP) will be determined by tenders.

"Thus, Azerbaijani companies will have the right to participate in these projects," Abdullayev said.

In turn, according to the head of the State Oil Company, SOCAR will try to assist Azerbaijani companies in involving in the projects.

TANAP envisages construction of the pipeline from the eastern border of Turkey to the country's western border to supply gas from Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas field to Europe through Turkey. The initial capacity of the pipeline is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters a year. About six billion cubic meters will be delivered to Turkey, and the rest - to Europe.

Currently, the Shah Deniz consortium considers two options for its gas transportation to Europe - TAP and Nabucco West. The final decision on the pipeline route will be made in June 2013.

The tender winning consortium for the construction of the Star refinery consists of the following companies: Spanish Tecnicas Reunidas, Italian Saipem, South Korea's GS Engineering & Construction and Japan's Itochu.

It is expected that construction of the Star refinery will finish in 2016. To date, $ 200 million of the available $6 billion have already been invested in the project

Construction work will be partly financed by shareholders' funds (30 per cent) which will equal $1.8 billion, while the rest will be financed through bank loans.

The Star refinery's processing capacity will equal 10 million tons.
