Head of Samruk Energo: Diversification of “energy portfolio” acceptable for Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan, Astana, October 11/ Trend, D. Mukhtarov /
The diversification of its "energy portfolio" is acceptable for Kazakhstan, the head of the Samruk Energo JSC Almasadam Satkaliyev said.
"The use of renewable energy sources alongside traditional ones is considered to be a more rational vector of development of the fuel and energy complex," Satkaliyev said.
According to him, the diversification of the "generational portfolio" on one hand will allow a more full-scaled use of the country's rich resource potential ,and on the other had, this will protect against the excessive dependence on carbons and hydrocarbons.
"I believe that such an attitude is rational not only in our region," the head of Samruk Energo said.
He believes that the diversification of the energy portfolio is necessary for acquiring experience in new ways of energy production and preparation for their adoption after the readiness of developed technologies.
Meanwhile, according to him, clean coal generation will remain our mainstay energy source and will further develop. Thus, according to the assessments of the International Energy Agency (IEA), the share of coal generation in global electricity production amounts to 41 per cent. This figure will increase to 44 per cent (mainly through the increase of coal generation in China and India) by 2030.
"It is necessary for us to rationally develop the most bountiful energy resources in the region, which means coal generation, but there will be a focus on the development of "clean coal technologies," Satkaliyev said.
He recalled that from 2009 to 2013 there was restructuring of the ash management system with the installation of electrostatic precipitators for a total of six power units on Ekibastuz GRES-1 and GRES-2. There will be commissioned electrostatic precipitators on two more blocks of GRES-1 and, thus, all eight operating units at two stations will be equipped with modern ash treatment. Altogether, this will reduce the emissions of ash into the atmosphere by about 120,000 tons per year.
According to him, fuel consumption per unit of product will decrease by 15 percent. Accordingly, harmful emissions will also decrease, the head of "Samruk - Energo" said.
