The potential of solar energy in Azerbaijan has reached 5000 megawatts, representative of the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources Jamil Melikov said during a roundtable discussion today.
According to Melikov, the potential of wind energy in the country is 4500 megawatts, biomass - 1500 megawatts, geothermal energy - 800 megawatts and small hydro power stations - 350 megawatts.
Melikov added that the share of solar energy in the total volume of alternative energy in Azerbaijan is projected to reach 40 per cent, while wind power will hit 28 per cent by 2020.
