Construction of around 47 kilometers long section of the Kutaisi-Abasha pipeline has been completed as part of the rehabilitation of the East-West gas pipeline in Georgia.

Currently the pipeline is under testing, Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation said on Dec.2.

The work on the section was carried out by Georgia's "Sakmilsadenmsheni" and Ukrainian " Pii sit Neftegazstrojizolyacziya".

Construction of the 47-kilometers long section of the high pressure gas pipeline began in late October 2012. The project was implemented with the assistance of USAID. Its cost amounted to almost $11 million.

The main purpose of constructing the Kutaisi Abasha gas pipeline is to provide a guaranteed gasification of the free industrial zone in Poti and recreational areas of the Black Sea coast, as well as to the population of Western Georgia.
