Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov.12

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The oil and gas wells drilling industry has been indigenized in Iran.

Heidar Bahmani, Director of National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), said that operations are fully conducted by Iranian experts and some of the needed equipment is manufactured domestically, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on Nov.12.

Before the [1979] Islamic Revolution, the drilling industry was in the hands of foreigners, he said, adding that now we are competing with them in oil and gas projects.

This is while Mohammad-Reza Takaidi, deputy director of NIDC, said onSept. 15 that 100 percent of the drilling rigs that have been imported to Iran over the past seven to eight years had been Chinese-made.

He added that 120 drilling rigs are currently operating at the country's oil and gas fields, Iran's ILNA news agency reported.

Twenty drilling rigs are operating at offshore fields and the rest are operating at onshore fields, he added.

NIDC owns 70 drilling rigs, he said, adding that the rest are belonged to the North Drilling Company, Naft Kav, Sepanta, MAPNA, GPTC, and Tadbir companies.
