The Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev processed around 6.48 million tons of oil and other crude in 2015, compared to 6.33 million tons in 2014, said a report issued by Azerbaijan's Cabinet of Ministers March 7.

The refinery is owned by Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR.

As a result of the effective use of reprocessing installations, the refining depth stood at 91.4 percent, which is considered a high indicator, according to the report.

"The Baku Oil Refinery sold 3.28 million tons of oil products in the country's market in 2015, while around 2.22 million tons (38 percent) was exported," said the report.

Currently, modernization is underway at the refinery. The modernization process is scheduled to be completed by late 2018.

After the completion of the reconstruction, the processing capacity at the refinery will increase from 6 million to 7.5 million tons of oil per year.
