Azerbaijan and Bulgaria have strategic partnership in the energy sector, said Bulgarian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Maya Hristova.

Hristova made the remarks during her meeting with a delegation led by President of Caspian Energy International Media Group Natalya Aliyeva.

Bulgaria is very satisfied with the strong support of Azerbaijan in the negotiations with the Shah Deniz consortium, said the ambassador, adding this support helped to sign a long-term contract for supply of one billion cubic meters per year of gas to Bulgaria from Shah Deniz Stage 2 starting from 2020.

She reminded about the memorandum of understanding and cooperation in energy sector, signed Nov. 13, 2009 in Sofia between the two countries’ energy ministries, a memorandum between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Bulgarian Energy Holding, and a memorandum between SOCAR and Bulgartransgaz.

Hristova said the Joint Gas and Oil Working Group of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan is an important and successful instrument for development of the energy cooperation between the two countries.

Elsewhere in her speech, Hristova highlighted the significantly dynamic political and economic cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkmenistan.

She said that in 2015-2016, Bulgaria and Turkmenistan had important reciprocal visits, which helped to support the constant dialogue and open up new areas of cooperation.

Hristova also highlighted the successful operation of the intergovernmental commission between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria and added that over 60 bilateral agreements had been signed between the two sides.
