Canada’s Zenith Energy company, operator of Azerbaijan’s block of oil fields Muradkhanli-Jafarli-Zardab, expects to complete the workover of Z-21 well in April 2018, Trend learned from the company.

The company confirms that the coiled tubing intervention has successfully cleaned out the entirety of the tubing string in well Z-21 to the depth of 3670 meters, circulating and drilling out mud and debris that had accumulated since the well was last produced in 1988.

“The company is now preparing its A-80 workover rig to pull the tubing string from the well. Once this is completed, it will run in hole with a drill bit and clean out the casing to total depth, 3982 meters. The well will subsequently be put on production,” said Zenith.

The company expects to complete the workover of Z-21 in April 2018.

“Zenith will use its own resources, where possible, such as a complete set of well control equipment including a blow-out preventer, expected to arrive in March 2018. The use of the company's equipment is expected to significantly decrease the time needed for the workovers, increase efficiency, and improve operational safety,” said the company.

As for Z-28 well, the company confirmed that the wellhead leaks have been successfully sealed.

“The subsequent coiled tubing intervention to clean out the well was successful, having cleaned out the well to a depth of 3583 meters. However, it has been determined that the company will have to mill out 63 meters of tubing inside the liner and then clean out an additional 298 meters of the liner to a total depth of 3944 to complete the workover,” said Zenith Energy.

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Zenith Aran Oil Company signed a Rehabilitation, Exploration, Development and Production Sharing Agreement (REDPSA) in March 2016 for a block that includes the Muradkhanli, Jafarli and Zardab oilfields. These fields cover an area of 642.2 square kilometers. Production under the agreement began in August of 2016.

Zenith holds a 80-percent participating interest in the three fields within the contract area, while SOCAR retains the remaining 20 percent. The duration of the agreement is 25 years, with a potential extension of five additional years.
