BP prepares another well for production under Shah Deniz 2

Another production well on the western flank has been prepared within the second phase of development of Azerbaijan's largest gas field Shah Deniz in January-June 2018, BP, which is the operator of the project, said in its report on the results of its activities in Azerbaijan in 1H2018.

Some 14 wells have been drilled, four wells on the north flank and four wells on the west flank have been completed and prepared for the start of production as of July 1, 2018 within the second phase of the project. Drilling operations will continue to deliver all wells required to ramp up to plateau level.

During the second quarter of 2018, Shah Deniz Alpha platform completed drilling the SDA11 well, with completion operations currently ongoing.

The Istiglal drilling rig completed and tested SDD04 well and commenced SDG04 well completion which is currently ongoing.

The Maersk Explorer rig continues drilling the lower section of the SDH02 well.

Within the implementation of Shah Deniz Stage 2, gas production will increase from 9 to 25 billion cubic meters per year. The produced gas will be exported to Turkey and the European markets through the expansion of the South Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of the Trans Anatolian (TANAP) and Trans Adriatic (TAP) gas pipelines.

A contract for development of the Shah Deniz offshore field was signed on June 4, 1996. The field's reserves are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas.
