By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

Energy Ministry of Kazakhstan is preparing a project for the uninterrupted supply of oil to the Shymkent and Pavlodar oil refineries, said Vice-Minister of Energy Bolat Akchulakov, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

"Today we provide the Shymkent and Pavlodar refineries only with oil from Aktobe and Kyzylorda. Unfortunately, deposits have a habit of getting exhausted, and today production is declining in some of them. To address this issue, we plan to engage the Kenkiyak-Atyrau oil pipeline and to deliver up to 4-6 million tons of oil per year from Atyrau to Kenkiyak from next year,” he said at an expanded meeting of the Senate Committee on Economic Policy, Innovation Development and Entrepreneurship.

Akchulakov noted that this project is designed to provide oil to the Shymkent and Pavlodar refineries.

Earlier, Uzbekistan announced its readiness to buy up to 5 million tons of Kazakh oil. Senators asked Akchulakov whether the Kazakh oil refineries would have a shortage of raw materials if such a quantity of oil is delivered to Uzbekistan.

The vice-minister responded that there is a solution to this issue.

"If the Uzbek side decides to build the Jizzakh oil refinery and we start building an oil pipeline capable of supplying up to 5 million tons of oil to Jizzakh, then we will expand the capacity of the Kenkiyak-Atyrau pipeline to an additional 5 million tons," Akchulakov said.
