Azerbaijan reduces oil pumping via BTC

Some 18.8 million tons of oil were transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline in January-July 2019, which is 3.4 percent less than the same period last year, Trend reports referring to a report by the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

The BTC accounted for 81 percent of all oil transported through the country's main oil pipelines during the said period.

According to the committee, a total of 23.2 million tons of oil were transported through the country's main pipelines, compared to 23.9 million tons transported in January-July last year.

In January-July 2019, nearly 2.7 million tons of transit (Turkmen) oil was pumped through BTC, which is less than the same period in 2018 (3.7 million tons).

The total length of the BTC pipeline is 1,768 kilometers, of which 443 kilometers run through the territory of Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers run through Georgia, and 1,076 kilometers go through Turkey. The construction of the pipeline began in April 2003, and it was first filled with oil on May 18, 2005.
