By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Construction of a new Steam Turbine Generator at Azerikimya Production Union (PU) has started, Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR told Trend.

“One of the of large projects carried out at Azerikimya Production Union is the construction of a new Steam Turbine Generator for increasing the energy effectiveness of the Steam Generator Complex at the Ethylene and Propylene Plant and for additional energy generation. For this purpose, SOCAR and Germany’s UNIPER company signed an agreement in 2016 to create SOCAR-UNIPER joint venture. The purpose of the project is to increase the design capacity of the Steam Generator Complex from the current 32 megawatt per hour to 65 megawatt per hour. For this purpose, an additional turbine generator will be installed to improve the existing technological system,” said the company.

As SOCAR said, it is planned to complete the work in the second quarter of 2020.

“The detailed design work and the order of the basic equipment is 100 percent complete. The construction work has already started. After the project is complete, the new Steam Generator Complex will work with 65 megawatt per hour capacity. This unit will allow to fully meet the demand of Azerikimya Production Union for 30 megawatt per hour of electricity received from Sumgait Electricity Supply Network. The remaining 35 megawatt per hour of electricity will be supplied to other facilities of SOCAR, as well as other electricity consumers of Sumgait,” said the company.

Azerikimya Production Union was transferred to SOCAR in 2010. The Syndicate has an ethylene-polyethylene plant (EP-300, Polymer-120, isopropyl alcohol production unit, production of steam and electric energy) and a repair and construction division.
