By Anastasiya Savchenko – Trend:

The efficiency of Azerbaijan’s energy system has been increased through investments and ongoing modernization, Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said in an interview with Respublika newspaper, Trend reports on Oct. 18.

“The equivalent fuel consumption greatly decreased for the production of one kilowatt-hour of electricity,” the minister added.

“This figure reached 331.6 grams of fuel in the past,” Shahbazov said. “It has already dropped to 271.1 grams.”

“Moreover, the loss of electricity in production and distribution decreased from 22.6 percent to 10.5 percent during the past 10 years,” the minister said.

“Presently, work is underway to optimize the energy system, in particular to increase efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and domestic consumption by power stations,” Shahbazov said.

“The work on optimization of generating capacities and restoration measures must lead to an increase in the generating capacity of Azerbaijan’s power plants by at least 500 megawatts,” the minister added.
