Trend:

Azerbaijan’s Azerenergy OJSC has taken a number of measures to prevent the cessation of the activity of the Sumgait thermal power plant in connection with the decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea, Trend reports referring to Azerishig OJSC.

A decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea could have caused the shutdown of the Sumgait thermal power plant. Thus, a decision was made to build a 750-meter offshore pier. It will allow taking water from a depth of the sea up to five meters, which will be used to cool the steam generating systems of the thermal power plant.

A system allowing to direct water into the cooling channel and from there directly to the station, through a cascade will be created.

The work on this project will be completed next year.

The Sumgait thermal power plant was commissioned in late 2008. The commissioning of the Sumgait thermal power plant allowed strengthening the energy security of Sumgait city and the Absheron Peninsula. This thermal power plant is important in ensuring the stability of the country's transmission and distribution systems.
