The volume of oil production at Azerbaijan’s Buzovna-Mashtaga field stood at 35,000 tons since early 2019, Ibrahim Ahmadov, deputy head of the public relations and events department at Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, told Trend.

He noted that the field also produced 72,000 cubic meters of gas during the mentioned period.

Gulf Drilling Azerbaijan, subsidiary of Gulf Drilling Supply FZE (UAE) has drilling six wells at Buzovna and plans are to drill two more by the year end.

Buzovna-Mashtaga field is located 20 kilometers north-east of Absheron peninsula between the villages of Mashtaga and Buzovna.

The field was first discovered in the Buzovna-South area after drilling the exploration well # 1/1056 in 1940. The well was commissioned with a daily oil production of 85 tons. Oil and gas in Mashtaga area was discovered in 1944.

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Dubai DB Petroleum signed a PSA contract on rehabilitation and exploration of the Buzovna-Mashtaga field in 2009. Before that, the Polish Oil and Gas Company (POGC) discussed with SOCAR the prospects of signing of PSA contract on rehabilitation and exploration of the onshore field. The sides held several rounds of talks, but no agreement was signed.
