Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) company, which develops Kazakhstan’s Karachaganak oil field, has announced successful start-up of the Fifth Trunk Line Project and 9863 Gas Injection Well, which is the first out of three Gas Injection Wells for this project, Trend reports with reference to the company.

The Fifth Trunk Line Project is an integral component of the suite of Karachaganak Plateau Extension Projects.

“It has the objective of increasing field-wide liquids recovery by optimizing the gas injection into a new area of the reservoir,” the report said.

The Fifth Trunk Line Project is an upgrade of the injection network capacity downstream of Unit Two by means of installation of a new 12-inch trunk line, connected to wellheads via 8-inch flowlines and drilling and completion of three new gas injection wells, the report said.

As noted by KPO Deputy General Director and Operations Director Gabriele Giona, the5th Trunk Line Project is a significant achievement as it marks an important milestone in the continued development of the Karachaganak field.

“The implementation of the 5th Trunk Line Project will help maintain maximum production levels at the Karachaganak field while maximizing local content during its execution,” Giona said.

The Fifth Trunk line Project is the last of the three Karachaganak Plateau Extension Projects, which also include KPC Gas Debottlenecking Project and the Fourth Injection Compressor Project which are entering the execution phase.

Karachaganak is one of the largest oil and gas condensate fields in Kazakhstan. Karachaganak Petroleum Operating produces oil and gas from the Karachaganak field. The shares in the consortium are as follows: Eni - 29.25 percent, Royal Dutch Shell - 29.25 percent, Chevron - 18 percent, Lukoil - 13.5 percent and KazMunayGas - 10 percent.
