Iran’s National South Oilfields Company’s projects related to six oil fields are being implemented to maintain and increase oil production, head of the research and technology department of the company Shahin Kord said.

“These are Ahvaz, Gachsaran, Kupal, Mansouri, Karanj and Bibi Hakimeh fields,” Kord added, Trend reports referring to the company’s website.

“The Research Institute of Petroleum Industry deals with Ahvaz and Bibi Hakimeh fields, Petroleum University of Technology deals with Gachsaran field, Shiraz University deals with Mansouri field, Sharif University of Technology deals with Kupal field and the Islamic Azad University deals with Karanj field,” the head of the department added.

"The purpose of signing agreements with these universities is to maintain and increase the production rates, simplify the production operations, reduce operating costs and increase value added by using the innovative and advanced technologies," Kord said.

“The agreements envisage five work packages,” the head of the department added. “So far, the work on the first packages is under completion and the programs for the next packages are being developed.”

Iran’s National South Oilfields Company belonging to the National Iranian Oil Company has 45 big and small hydrocarbon fields in the area of ​​400,000 square kilometers from the Bushehr province to the north of Khuzestan province. About 80 percent of Iran’s crude oil and 16 percent of Iran’s gas are extracted in the company’s territories.

In general, there are 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields in Iran. Iran’s total hydrocarbon reserves are 836 billion barrels. With the technology equipment, it is possible to extract 239 billion barrels. Iran may use 29 percent of the reserves, while 71 percent remain underground.

Some 800,000 barrels of oil and 13 million cubic meters of gas are extracted from Ahvaz oil field a day, 127,000 barrels of oil and 2.5 million cubic meters of gas are extracted from Karanj oil field, 120,000 barrels of oil are extracted from Bibi Hakimeh field, 480,000 barrels of oil and 25 million cubic meters of gas are extracted from Gachsaran oil field, 100,000 barrels of oil are extracted from Mansouri oil field, and 91,000 barrels of oil and 2,000 barrels of gas condensate are extracted from Kupal oil field a day.
