Investigation on illegal oil extraction case underway in Kazakhstan's Mangystau

Over 3,000 tons of oil worth more than half a billion tenge ($1.2 million) were being illegally extracted in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region, Trend reports with reference to the Committee for Financial Monitoring of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Finance.

The committee said that Employees of Economic Investigations Department of Mangystau Region of the committee completed a criminal investigation into the transportation, sale, storage of oil and petroleum products, as well as oil refining without legal documents.

The investigation found that since August 2019, SK Petroleum LLP shipped a total of over 3,441 tons of crude oil from the North Karamandybas field to the oil loading bases in Zhanaozen city.

The investigation’s conclusion showed that the average market value of illegally produced crude oil of SK Petroleum LLP in the amount of 3,367 metric tons exceeded 581.7 million tenge ($1.4 million).

The committee said that the mentioned above volume of crude oil was seized with the approval of the court.

During the pre-trial investigation, the fault of the director of SK Petroleum LLP was fully proved. On April 20, 2020, the criminal case with the indictment was sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
