Second modern combined cycle gas turbine commissioned in Uzbekistan

The second modern 280-mW combined cycle gas turbine was launched at the Takhiatash Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in Uzbekistan on June 17, 2020, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

In April, the first gas turbine was launched as part of the modernization of the facility. The combined-cycle plants should help cover power needs in Uzbekistan's Karakalpakstan Autonomus Republic and Khorezm regions, the report said.

The project on construction of new modern combined cycle plants is being implemented by South Korean consortium of Hyundai Engineering and Hyundai Engineering & Construction. Gas turbines and two generators were supplied by General Electric.

A large investment project on construction of two modern steam-gas plants at Tahiatash thermal power station is being implemented in accordance with the decision of the president of Uzbekistan from 11 September 2017.

The $678.2 million project was financed by a $300-million loan from Asian Development Bank and funds from the Uzbekistan.
