Azerbaijan eyes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in upcoming years

Azerbaijan plans to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent by 2030, head of Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) of Energy Ministry Fariz Shirinov, Trend reports.

Shirinov made the remark at the Baku International Energy Charter Forum on "Transition to renewable energy sources in electricity production, transport, heating and cooling: modern challenges and trends."

According to him, the energy potential of Azerbaijan has been significantly strengthened, and its geographical position significantly favors this.

"The potential of wind power in Azerbaijan is estimated at 3,000 megawatts. The potential of solar energy in Azerbaijan is estimated at 20,000 megawatts, " Shirinov said.

Referring to the reduction of emissions, Shirinov noted that the government of Azerbaijan has committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent by 2030.

The event was jointly organized by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy and the International Energy Charter.

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, Secretary General of the International Energy Charter Urban Rusnak, Director responsible for the coordination of energy policy in the Directorate General for Energy Cristina Lobillo Borrero and other representatives of the Energy Charter are participating in the event.
