The first unit of the plant, which will process the gas extracted from the 14th phase of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) will be launched in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, to March 21, 2021), Managing Director of Iran's Pars Oil & Gas Company (POGC) Iran Mohammad Meshkinfam said, Trend reports citing POGC.

The director stressed that there is currently 85 percent progress on the construction of the plant.

Meshkinfam added that a total of 56 million cubic meters of gas are currently extracted from 4 platforms in the 14th phase of the South Pars gas field.

“A total of 13 plants are planned to launch in connection with the South Pars gas field. So far, 12 plants have been launched. These plants are operating under auspices of Iran’s South Pars Gas Company (SPGC),” he noted.

The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field. Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.

Iran extracted daily 570 million cubic meters of gas from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).
