Extraction work on Iran's South Azadegan field continues

There is a 70-percent progress currently on work for increasing extraction from Iran-Iraq joint South Azadegan oil field (called Majnun in Iraq), Executive Director of Iran’s Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) Touraj Dehghani told ILNA, Trend reports.

The director noted that however, there was a 15-20 percent progress on work for increasing extraction at this field until a few years ago.

“As a result of the work done to increase extraction from the South Azadegan oil field, the field has the potential to produce 140,000 barrels of oil per day,” he added.

Dehghani said that 200 wells are to be drilled in this field related to increase extraction from the field. So far, more than 170 wells have been drilled. The extraction has started from 107 wells.

According to the director, in addition, Skid-mounted unit has been launched at the field. This has resulted in an increase on extraction from this field. This unit extracts 50,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
