BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 13

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) currently processes 2.2 million barrels of crude oil and gas condensate per day, Deputy Director of the company, Nasser Babaei said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to him, in addition, the company transports and exports 270 million liters of oil products per day.

The deputy director added that the company's current financial turnover is estimated at 10 billion dollars.

Babaei noted that ensuring the well-being and protection of the environment in the energy sector is one of the company's most important responsibilities.

“At the same time, the necessary steps are being taken to use solar energy in the oil sector to protect the environment. Thus, a number of facilities in the Iranian oil sector will provide electricity through solar panels,” he said.

The deputy director stressed that there are also a number of plans to clean up oil-contaminated soils to protect the environment. According to these plans, the lands will be cleaned by new methods, not by chemical methods.

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
