Azerbaijan discloses volume of oil transportation via BTC pipeline in 2020

Over 27.4 million tons of oil were transported from Azerbaijan via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in the past year, which is down by 11.7 percent compared to 2019, Trend reports citing a report from the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

"In 2020, the BTC pipeline accounted for 79.1 percent of all oil transported through the country's main oil pipelines. Over 38.8 million tons of oil were transported through them," said the report.

In the reporting year, almost 3.9 million tons of transit (Turkmen) oil was pumped through the BTC, which is 11.3 percent less than in 2019.

The total length of the BTC pipeline is 1,768 kilometers, of which 443 kilometers runs through the territory of Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers - Georgia, 1,076 kilometers - Turkey. Construction of the pipeline began in April 2003, and it's filling with oil on May 18, 2005.
