By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Two exploration and 1 option wells will be drilled within the agreement on joint activities between KMG Drilling & Services LLP (a subsidiary of Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas Company) and Caspian Drilling Company Ltd (a subsidiary of Azerbaijan’s SOCAR), a source in KazMunayGas (KMG) told Trend on Mar.10.

According to the company, these wells will be drilled on the Shallow Water Absheron Peninsula structure in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea using the Satti jack-up floating drilling rig.

"In the near future, it’s planned to complete the modification of the jack-up rig and agree on the necessary working documents. After that, the materials and equipment of the customer and his contractors will be loaded onto the jack-up rig. Personnel training and equipment inspection are also nearing completion," the source said.

In February 2020, KMG Drilling & Services and the Caspian Drilling Company signed an agreement on drilling wells with the Kazakhstan jack-up rig Satti in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

The National Company of Kazakhstan ‘KazMunayGas’ completed the transfer of the Satti rig to Azerbaijan on June 19, 2019.

Satti is the first drilling platform built entirely in Kazakhstan. It was built over three years using American technology at two shipyards. The rig is designed for drilling operations in the Caspian Sea at a depth of up to 80 meters. An Azerbaijani-Kazakh team of specialists has been formed to participate in the drilling and provide technical support.
