The proceeds from the export of oil products produced at the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery after the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in 2020 amounted to $338.9 million while the proceeds from sales in the domestic market - 2.5 million manat ($1.5 million), Trend reports with reference to the report of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers for the last year.
During the reporting period, the refinery processed 5.9 million tons of crude oil.
"The refinery produced 1.2 million tons of gasoline, 502,200 tons of jet fuel, 2.03 million tons of diesel fuel, 187,200 tons of liquefied gas, 374,700 tons of bitumen, 23,200 tons of lubricating oils, 196,900 tons of petroleum coke and other products in 2020," the report says.
In accordance with the report, 77 percent of marketable oil products produced at the refinery were sent to the domestic market while 23 percent were exported.
The international companies checked the equipment of the refinery and it was recommended to replace several main units built in the 1970s-1980s of the last century, including primary oil refining units, with new ones. In this regard, SOCAR has started relevant preliminary studies and design.
The Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery is one of the biggest oil refineries in the Transcaucasian region, located on the Absheron Peninsula. The capacity of the refinery is about 4-6 million tons per year with the prospect of increasing up to 10 million tons per year.
Higher production volumes at the Heydar Aliyev Refinery can be achieved in 2025, when the refinery modernization project, which began in 2015, is fully completed.
