Production of catalysts for Iran’s petrochemical sector launched

Iran officially began production of two catalysts for polypropylene and heavy polyethylene in the petrochemical sector today on Apr. 15, Trend reports citing the IRINN.

A total of $7 million was spent on the construction of a plant for the production of polypropylene catalysts. The plant will produce 12 tons of polypropylene catalysts a year. Thus, 30 percent of Iran's petrochemical needs will be met.

Moreover, $3 million was spent on the construction of a plant for the production of heavy polyethylene catalysts. The plant will produce 20 tons of heavy polyethylene catalyst per year and thus, 25 percent of the needs of Iran's petrochemical sector will be met.

As reported, 40 types of main catalysts worth $270 million are used in the petrochemical sector in Iran per year. So far, Iran has produced 19 types of catalysts domestically, and 9 more catalysts will be produced domestically by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2022).

On Apr.15, a unit of Iran’s Palayesh Sepehr Parsian Company was launched in Iran, and mass production of two catalysts for the production of polypropylene and heavy polyethylene was launched. In this regard, a total of $1.02 billion was spent and 850 people were employed.
