By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

A discussion was conducted in Tehran between Managing Director of Iran's Khazar Exploration and Production Company Ali Osouli and Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Iran Ahmed Gurbanov on the development of cooperation between the two countries in oil sector, Trend reports citing the Shana news agency.

Speaking in the meeting the managing director said that due to the joint land and water borders between Iran and Turkmenistan, it is necessary to develop cooperation in the oil sector.

According to Osouli, the Khazar Exploration and Production Company has achieved a number of achievements in the Caspian Sea.

“In addition, a South Caspian exploration consortium has been established, as well as, excavations have been carried out in blocks 6.2 and 8.1. At the same time, an agreement on oil cooperation has been reached with Azerbaijan on the joint development of the Alborz field (called Araz-Alov-Sharg field in Azerbaijan). Also, there are shipbuilding facilities operate in northern Iran. Moreover, Iran Khazar, Amir-Kabir and Caspian oil platforms have been built. All this shows that Iran's Khazar Exploration and Production Company has enough potential, and this potential can be used to develop joint cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan,” he added.

During the meeting, Turkmen Ambassador to Iran Ahmad Gurbanov also noted that cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran in the oil and gas sectors should be developed.

The ambassador stressed that given the cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in the oil sector in the Caspian Sea, it is hoped that Turkmenistan will also be able to use Iran's technical services in the deep waters of the Caspian Sea.

Gurbanov expressed hope that a meeting of the economic commission with the participation of representatives of technical and qualified companies of the two countries will be held soon.

"There are many potentials for the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran in the energy sector in the Caspian Sea, and these potentials can contribute to the economic development of the two countries," he said.
