Iran's ICOFC to develop two gas fields

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 10

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC) has included the development of the Baba Qir and Bankol gas fields in western Iran in its plans for the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021, through March 20, 2022), Technical Director of the company Gholamreza Nasiraei said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The director noted that two-dimensional (2D) seismic surveys of these two fields, which are about 500 kilometers long in Iran's Ilam and Kermanshah provinces, have already been completed.

Nasiraei added that these two fields will be developed in a direction to support the increase of extraction from the Tang-e-Bijar gas field.

“Three-dimensional (3D) seismic operations are being carried out in the Tang-e-Bijar and Delavaran gas fields in an area of 1,560 square kilometers. The first stage of this operation has already been completed at the Delavaran field,” he said.

According to the director, the three-dimensional seismic operations in the Tang-e-Bijar gas field have begun since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021). And it is projected that the operations will be completed next Iranian year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).

“Obtaining seismic data in the oil and gas sector is one of the most complex and great plans, and the seismic surveys of the two fields will cost about 40 million euro and 1.06 trillion rials ($25.2 million),” Nasiraei said.

There are currently 74 oil and 22 gas fields in Iran. So, 37 oil fields are operating in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), 14 fields – Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC), 5 fields – Arvandan Oil and Gas Company (AOGC), and 18 oil fields – Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC).

In addition, 5 gas fields are operating in the territory of the NISOC, 13 fields – the ICOFC, 1 field – Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), and 3 gas fields – the IOOC.

Iran’s total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
