Kazakhstan to hold auction for construction of power plants

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy has developed and approved a Plan for the placement of generating plants with a flexible generation mode with the definition of a zone, type of equipment, required volumes of flexible capacities in the zone of the Unified Electricity System of Kazakhstan, Trend reports citing the ministry.

In order to conduct auctions for the construction of generating plants with a maneuverable generation mode, in accordance with paragraph 5 of the ‘Rules for organizing and conducting auctions on the construction of newly commissioned generating plants with a maneuverable generation mode,’ approved by order of the acting minister of energy of Kazakhstan dated April 30, 2021 (hereinafter referred to as the Rules), by order of June 25, 2021, acting minister of Energy approved the Auction Schedule for the construction of newly commissioned generating units with a flexible generation mode for 2021.

This Schedule provides for the holding of the auction in the following zones of the Unified Electric Power System of Kazakhstan:

In accordance with subparagraph 1) of paragraph 4 of the Rules

- December 27, 2021 - in the Southern zone (Kyzylorda region), the construction of a combined cycle gas turbine generating thermal energy with an installed electrical capacity of about 150-250 MW;

- December 28, 2021 - in the South zone (Turkestan region), the construction of a combined cycle plant with an installed electrical capacity of about 250-350 MW;

In accordance with subparagraph 2) of paragraph 4 of the Rules

- December 29, 2021 - in the Southern and Northern zones, the construction of a gas installation and (or) a generating installation using hydrodynamic energy of water with a total installed electrical capacity of about 450-550 MW.

The auction is scheduled for December 2021.
