By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:
Kazakhstan’s natural gas output amounted to 55.1 billion cubic meters in 2020,which is 7 times more than in 1991 (7.9 billion cubic meters), Kazakhstan Vice Minister of Energy Zhumabay Karagayev said, Trend reports.
At the same time, about 17.3 billion cubic meters (31 percent) of the produced associated petroleum gas was injected back into the reservoir to maintain reservoir pressure, 10.1 billion cubic meters (18 percent) was used to generate electricity and other technological needs of subsoil users.
Of the processed gas, some 17 billion cubic meters (62 percent) was directed to the needs of the domestic market and 10.7 billion cubic meters (38 percent) for export.
He noted that in accordance to the ministry’s forecasts, the consumption of the country's domestic market will grow and will reach 25.7 billion cubic meters by 2025 and 30.2 billion cubic meters by 2030.
The vice minister noted that the growing demand is expected to be covered by the commissioning of new fields. There are contracts with nine subsoil users for exploration and production from 11 fields with recoverable gas reserves in the amount of 187 billion cubic meters.
“It is expected that the timely commissioning of these fields, as well as the commissioning of additional gas processing capacities, will lead to an increase in gas volume by 8.1 billion cubic meters in 2025 and 8.4 billion cubic meters in 2030,” concluded Karagayev.
