SOCAR reduces emissions from operations in Azerbaijan and beyond

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.31

The volume of emissions from operations of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR fell from 175,900 tons in 2019 to 149,500 tons in 2020, Trend reports with reference to the company.

SOCAR’s emissions in Turkey stood at 62,660 tons in 2020, as compared to 76,450 tons in 2019. The volume of emissions in Ukraine was reduced from 3,880 tons to 3,580 tons.

SOCAR targets zero emissions in 2022 and will become of one the first oil and gas companies to reach zero carbon emission. The company takes proactive steps to prevent methane gas emission into the atmosphere and to fight climate change which causes threat to environmental sustainability in the Caspian Sea region and around the world.

SOCAR is among the companies meeting international standards for environmental security in industry.

The main directions of the company’s environmental activity are envisaged in the Environmental Policy. It continuously conducts monitoring on its production sites offshore and onshore in order to control the environmental security in its departments and facilities.

The company has been actively using wind and solar energy facilities in order to minimize the fuel consumption and increase the energy efficiency. Most of the control and measuring devices installed on the pipelines run on solar energy. In addition, wind turbines and solar panels are used in a number of enterprises to illuminate office buildings.
