Azerbaijani companies to partake in renewable energy auctions in Kazakhstan - ministry

Azerbaijani companies will take part in the auctions held in Kazakhstan on the use of renewable energy sources (RES), the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan told Trend.

According to the ministry, Kazakhstan plans to bring the share of renewable energy sources in electricity generation to 10 percent by 2030 and to 50 percent by 2050.

In 2021, the total installed capacity put up for auction amounted to 200 MW, and by type of power plant:

- solar power plants (SPP) - 20 MW (in the Kostanay region);

- wind power plants (WPP) - 50 MW (in the North Kazakhstan region);

- hydroelectric power plants (HPP) - 120 MW;

- biogas power plants (BioES) - 10 MW, - the message says.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy has created a legal and institutional framework for the introduction of the auction mechanism.

According to the ministry, both Kazakh and international participants showed great interest in the auction.

Within the framework of the 17th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, the parties noted the need to establish and develop cooperation between companies of the two countries in the field of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, energy conservation and agreed to participate in auctions on the use of renewable energy sources.
