Iran to launch new renewable energy power plants

Iran will launch new renewable energy power plants that can generate about 200 megawatt hours of electricity, by the summer of next year, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister and the Chairman of Iranian Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization, Mahmoud Kamani said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Kamani noted that Iran is currently building renewable power plants that can generate 400 megawatt-hours of electricity.

The deputy minister added that the capacity of renewable power plants built in Iran so far is about 900 megawatt-hours. Its 310 megawatt-hours belong to wind power plants, 455 megawatt-hours to solar panel power plants, and the rest to other power plants.

"The share of renewable power plants in Iran's electricity generation is less than 1 percent. This is a very small figure given the country’s potential," he said.

The chairman stressed according to research, Iran has the potential to build solar power plants that can generate 100,000 megawatt-hours of electricity and wind power plants that can generate 40,000 megawatt-hours of electricity.

According to him, the organization has made an announcement on the construction of renewable energy power plants that can generate 10,000 megawatt-hours of electricity.

“As a result of the announcement, an appeal has been received so far regarding the construction of 32,000 megawatt-hours of renewable energy power plants. The figure is expected to reach 50,000-60,000 megawatt-hours,” Kamani said.

The deputy minister also noted as for the investment in this field, the investor will receive a refund for 6 years after the launch of the renewable energy power plant. During this period, electricity will be purchased by the organization. After, they can be sold the generated electricity at the exchange for 14 years.
