Iran seeks to curb high gas consumption

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.11

Trend:

Iran is planning to impose special restrictions on gas consumption, to have a sustainable supply in winter, said the Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company Majid Chegini, Trend reports citing ILNA.

Iran's gas consumption in the commercial sector and households during the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021) increased by 90 million cubic meters compared to last year, reaching 480 million cubic meters, Chegini noted.

Following the government's restriction on gas supply, power plants are using diesel as a substitute fuel that limit the country's diesel export while gas export to Turkey and Iraq has declined.

The restriction has also halted the development of industries that rely on gas supply and created concerns over future development plans.

Official organizations and offices are obligated to reduce their gas consumption to secure gas supply for other sectors during winter.
