Iran will increase electricity imports from Turkmenistan this winter, which will reduce its fuel consumption, Director General of the Iranian Electricity Generation, Transmission, and Distribution Company Arash Kurdi said, Trend reports via Orient.

This was made possible by the commissioning of the second power transmission line from Turkmenistan to Iran.

The parties agreed to increase the supply of Turkmen electricity to Iran during the 16th meeting of the Joint Economic Commission, which was held on October 26-27 in Tehran.

The commissioning of the second power transmission line from Turkmenistan along the Mary-Serakhs-Mashhad route (Iran) will reduce fuel consumption by a million liters per day in the country.

Turkmenistan increased its electricity production by 12 percent in the first 11 months of this year, while exports increased by 36 percent.
