Electricity generation in Iran’s Khuzestan Province increasing

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. The electricity generation in Iran’s Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran) increased by 8 percent, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), an official of Khuzestan Regional Electric Company Faramarz Shadfar said, Trend reports referring to the company’s website.

According to him, in total, about 38,198 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity were generated in the Khuzestan Province last Iranian year.

Shadfar noted that about 24.1 percent of this electricity was generated by hydroelectric power plants, 72.7 percent by thermal power plants, 1.6 percent by small-scale power plants and the rest – by other power plants (solar panels, renewable power plants and etc.), and supplied to the Iranian electricity network.

The official also noted a total of 40,296 gigawatt-hours of electricity were consumed in the province over last Iranian year, which is an increase of 8.7 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year.

The total power generation capacity of Iran's Khuzestan Province is about 13,916 megawatt-hours. About 8,169 megawatt-hours of it is accounted for HPPs, and 5,027 megawatt-hours – for TPPs. Meanwhile, the power generation capacity of renewable energy power plants in the Province is 139 megawatt-hours.
