TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 28. A solar power plant has been constructed in Uzbekistan's Navoi region, Head of the Department for Development of Generation Based on Renewable Energy Sources of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan Abdullajon Otaboev told reporters on the sidelines of a press tour of a solar photovoltaic station in Navoi on June 27, Trend reports.

"In 2019, the ministry jointly with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) launched tenders for the construction of a solar photovoltaic plant with a total capacity of 100 megawatts in the Navoi region. More than 20 international companies participated in the tender, which was won by UAE's Masdar," said Otaboev.

He noted that the Masdar company estimated the project cost at $110 million.

According to the head of the department, Uzbekistan managed to save over 75 million tons of gas through the solar power plant.

"The power plant generating nearly 260 million kWh of electricity was commissioned in 2021. It's capable of supplying electricity to more than 70,000 households," Otabaev said.
