BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 12. Iran may import gas to meet gas consumption in country for the second half of the current Iranian year (September 23, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Manager of the Dispatching Department of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Mohammad Reza Joulaei said, Trend reports referring to Shana News Agency.

According to Joulaei, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji is holding discussions with other parties (countries) in this regard. If an agreement is reached in these discussions, it will be made public.

The manager also added that gas consumption in residential building and small commercial facilities in the country is expected to increase by about 6 percent in the second half of the current Iranian year. Because a 6 percent increase in gas consumption was also recorded in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022).

"Meanwhile, in the second half of last Iranian year (September 23, 2021 through March 20, 2022), 640-650 million cubic meters of gas were consumed daily in residential buildings and small commercial facilities. Taking into account the current gas production, and the forecast on gas consumption will increase by 6 percent, it is necessary to import gas," he said.

Currently, gas production in Iran is around 1 billion cubic meters per day. Of this, 44 percent, in other words, about 500 million cubic meters, is consumed in residential buildings and small industrial facilities.
