BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 27. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) can deliver Azerbaijani gas to over 10 European countries, said Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan's Energy Minister, Trend reports.

The minister described TAP as a pivotal strategic initiative that bolsters Europe's energy diversity during challenging periods, ensuring a reliable and uninterrupted supply of natural gas.

He told Italian media that in the past year, TAP swiftly increased its gas deliveries to Europe by 40 percent, reaching 11.4 billion cubic meters, with a substantial share of 9.6 billion cubic meters being directed to Italy alone. TAP has clearly demonstrated its role in enhancing energy accessibility, safeguarding the environment, and bolstering energy security, said the minister.

Shahbazov further underlined the importance of the REPowerEU plan and the updated strategic partnership agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan in the energy sector, which underscores the reinforcement of TAP's role. He reiterated their commitment to expanding natural gas supplies to Europe, emphasizing that TAP remains a reliable "safety cushion" for European partners. He expressed hope that these partners recognize the critical need to intensify their efforts for the continued development of this project.

TAP is an essential part of the Southern Gas Corridor, offering a direct and cost-effective transportation route to South East European countries and beyond. It transports natural gas from the Caspian basin to Europe, connecting with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Greek-Turkish border, crossing Northern Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea before coming ashore in Southern Italy to connect to the Italian natural gas network.

TAP offers various connection options to a number of existing and proposed pipelines, delivering gas to various European markets and consumers to power homes and industries as the region transitions to a low carbon future.
