Türkiye’s gas import from Iran nosedives

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 13. Türkiye’s natural gas import from Iran in October 2023, fell by 80.9 percent, compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

Data from the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) shows that Türkiye imported 128 million cubic meters of gas from Iran in October 2023.

This is a significant drop from October 2022, when Türkiye imported 671 million cubic meters of gas from Iran.

In October 2023, Türkiye’s total gas import was 3.71 billion cubic meters, of which 2.83 billion cubic meters came from natural gas and 525 million cubic meters from LNG.

Türkiye imported gas mainly from Russia and Azerbaijan in that month.

Iran stands second in the world for gas reserves, with about 34 trillion cubic meters of gas. The county's gas production capacity is currently more than 1 billion cubic meters per day.

On average, Iran currently produces about 259 billion cubic meters of gas annually and more than 800 million cubic meters daily.
