BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 29. The first gas unit of the Sabzevar Thermal Power Plant, situated in the Razavi Khorasan Province of northeastern Iran, has been successfully integrated into the national electricity grid, CEO of Iran's Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (TAVANIR), Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said, Trend reports.
He noted that this unit boasts a production capacity of 183 megawatt-hours of electricity.
Rajabi Mashhadi also said that the expansion of the Sabzevar TPP is underway to bolster electricity generation and address the peak demand in the region. The project is progressing with the efforts of approximately 1,000 workers.
Furthermore, Rajabi Mashhadi highlighted that, upon full completion, the station’s total power generation capacity is projected to reach 546 megawatt-hours. This will be achieved through the operation of two gas units, each with a capacity of 183 megawatts, and a single steam unit capable of producing 180 megawatts.
At present, the power generation capacity of all of Iran's power plants, including thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc., is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent is accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.
Iran now has 617 power units operating in 135 TPPs. The electricity generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants exceeds 74,200 megawatt-hours.
